Prince William Sound Tourism Impact Study

The purpose of our project was to do a baseline study of ten campsites in the Prince William Sound area.  This information will be used to study the possible impact the increased use will have on the sites.  It is expected that there will be an increase in the number of visitors to Prince William Sound because of the recent opening of a road to Whittier.  From Anchorage, Whittier is the closest point of access to Prince William Sound.

The second purpose to our study is to create two brochures to educate visitors about how to take care of the environment in Prince William Sound.  One brochure will focus on the marine users, while a second will focus on the backcountry users in the Whittier area.

Surveys are being distributed to visitors during the summer tourism season and collected and compiled in the fall.  We will also visit the ten campsites in spring of 2001 and do a survey of the condition of each campsite for future comparison.
